Happy New Year!
We have conquered the holidays and said goodbye to the year that was 2020. We are looking forward to bringing you more great date ideas in 2021! Coming up with date ideas can be a little challenging in January…in Canada…during a pandemic. But fear not, we’ve got suggestions so make sure to check back weekly for inspiration. Here’s a fun winter date night idea to kick off the new year with your love.
Dinner & Double Feature!
Indoor “Drive-In”
Each of you gets to pick a movie you think the other will enjoy OR you both agree on a movie and sequel to watch together. You may want to settle into some Marvel magic with Guardians of the Galaxy and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, or Mama Mia! and the aptly named Mama Mia! Here We Go Again. Perhaps you’d prefer to get wrapped up in the intrigue of the Mission: Impossible series. It’s action-packed with awesome sets and scenes from around the world.
There are so many great movies to chose from, you can easily repeat this date over and over again.
Food & Drink
Keep it simple. Kick the night off with a plate of shared nachos – pub style!
These can be whipped up easily and quickly with a lot of toppings you may even have on hand. For instance, we recently had some leftover pulled pork that we’d made in the slow cooker. We created a new take on one of our favourite dishes by making BBQ pork nachos. We topped them off with a heap of crunchy coleslaw, a twist of lime and cilantro garnish. It was amazing!
A couple of frosty and easy-to-make Coronaritas are the perfect drink pairing. See the recipe below.
Coronarita
Frozen Limeade
2 bottles of Corona, Dos Equis, Modelo or any other Mexican beer
6 ounces of Tequila
Rimming salt
Limes
Thaw the limeade for about an hour.
In a large pitcher, mix the limeade first with the tequila and then add the beer. Mix the beer in slowly to avoid foaming.
Run a lime around the edge of your glasses and rim with salt.
Throw some ice in your blender for a frozen beerita or add ice cubes to keep your drink chilled.
Serves approximately 6 drinks.
** Caution – may cause visions of palm trees and beaches. 🌴 😎
Attire & Atmosphere
Be sure to have ample blankets and pillows on hand for maximum comfort and the dress is casual flannel or fleece. Jingle jammies (i.e. Xmas PJs) are perfectly acceptable. Low light or candles help create the movie theatre vibe.
Movie Snacks
Make two snack baskets that include your favourite snacks…oh, and your date’s too! Include both sweet and savoury delights. Add some vintage candy to the mix and get your stovetop popcorn popper out to make some buttery-licious homemade popcorn!
As it happens, a lot of people stay home more anyway during the colder months. On top of that, with all the venue and restaurant closures this year due to pandemic restrictions, everyone is having to be that much more creative with their date nights. You can’t go wrong with this Double Feature winter date night idea. So snuggle up, wait it out and enjoy the show.
