With the vast majority of us having to stay indoors these days, we have come up with 10 great virtual date night ideas for you two this weekend! Let’s jump right in so you can start planning.
1. Livestream a Concert

Musicians and singers everywhere have been going online to share their talents and bring some much-needed joy to their fans during the pandemic. Go to your favourite artists’ website or socials to see who might be performing a live streaming event this weekend. You can also check traditional concert venues or ticketsellers for listings, times and prices. This is a great way to support musicians, clubs, and lighting and tech people since they aren’t able to work in front of a live audience.
2. Stream an Opera or Ballet

If you’ve always wanted to attend a Grand Opera performance or a Ballet, now is your chance! You can even forego the formalities of formal dress or feeling intimidated. Just sit back and enjoy the performance. Consider it a practice run for when you can attend in person.
Again, the bonus is lending a bit of support to those organizations that have been forced to close for the past several months. Check out the Vancouver Opera, the Metropolitan Opera, The National Ballet of Canada and even YouTube for performances and times.
3. Pub Quiz or Trivia Night

Put your thinking caps on, pull yourself a pint and settle in for a good night of trivia. This is so much fun to do as a couple. Sign up as a team of two or if you think you want more brain power, hook up with some friends to enter with a bigger squad. Find local events via the magic of Google or Facebook.
4. Stand-Up!

Get ready for some laughs! We have done a couple of these comedy events featuring both a single performer and multiple comics via Zoom. They were totally hilarious and just what we needed at the end of a long week. The price of these types of shows are generally pretty reasonable and they help those performers who aren’t working in clubs these days. Check Instagram, Facebook and Eventbrite for comedy shows live streaming this weekend.
5. Take a Cooking Class

Love to eat? Love to travel? This date idea is perfect for you! You can learn anything from making pasta with an Italian grandmother or paella with a Spanish chef, to making Korean dumplings or delicious French pâtisseries. For those of you in Toronto, you can pre-order a meal kit from restaurant Rasa and follow along virtually with a chef who will take you through making one of their classic 3-course meals. There may be some of your favourite local restaurants doing something similar. Airbnb is also a good resource, offering a ton of online cooking-related experiences (and many more, which we’ll list below). If cooking is your (dinner) roll, this is a perfect activity for a virtual date night indoors.
6. Virtual Psychic Reading

Ready to find out about your future together? How about a visit with a virtual psychic for a Tarot Card reading? Airbnb offers this as an online event and there are several to choose from. You can read reviews from other participants and get a feel for what you can expect. Sessions are usually about an hour long and, who knows, maybe you’ll discover something new about each other.
7. Take a Tour

How about a tour of an Irish village? Maybe follow a Plague Doctor through the streets of Prague? Or visit the Louvre in Paris? If you are itching to travel, this might be one of your preferred virtual date night ideas. If you’ve talked about vacation spots or bucket list holidays, this could be a good way to investigate those locations a little further and dream-scratch that itch to wander. Again, check out Airbnb for a host of hosts ready to show off their cities and special places.
8. A Night of Magic and Illusion

How about learning a magic trick or optical illusion? You can spend some time during your date to learn a trick or two to impress your friends. Just don’t saw each other in half! Enjoy a show by an Illusionist or a Mentalist, hear stories of their professions and watch as they perform mind-bending tricks. Now, believe it or not, we don’t own any shares in the company or anything but, once again, we steer you towards airbnb, a perfect source to find an assortment of these magical performers.
9. Gaming!

Have you got game? How about a night of online gaming together? Join some friends or compete against players from all over the world. Try your hand at World of Warcraft or a virtual Escape Room. Or maybe some old school Monopoly or Clue with friends could be just the thing this weekend.
10. Instagram Night!

There are hundreds of virtual events out there to choose from and you can find them by searching social media sites and the ‘net. But if you can’t seem to agree on one, you can always have some fun on Instagram. Create a page for both of you as a couple and post some of your best pics! Load some videos or reels. Or create a page for your dog or cat! Whatever you do, just have fun with it!
As you can see, there are many more options other than streaming movies and TV shows, for all that time we’ve been spending online this past year. Make the best of those special moments together and try one of these 10 virtual date night ideas for the weekend.
