As COVID-19 restrictions have slowly lifted throughout the summer, people have been able to get out and take in some of the warmer weather – while still maintaining their ‘romance bubble.’ We still need to be diligent, but there are some outdoor activities that you and your partner may want to take advantage of before Fall sets in. Keep your distance – but amp up the fun with these 7 ‘romance bubble’ date ideas that are just what you need right now!
1. Road Trip

Always at the top of a Fun Activities list is a good old road trip. Get out the map, put your windows down and hit the road! Explore a new neighbourhood, take a back road, or head to a nearby town you’ve never been to. If you have a few days and are on one of Canada’s glorious coasts, make that trip along the Cabot Trail in Nova Scotia or the Sea to Sky Highway in British Columbia. It really doesn’t matter where you go, the beauty is that you never know what you’ll discover together.
2. Outdoor Sports
Bring your ‘love’ to the court and challenge your partner to a game of tennis. You can throw a frisbee around or launch your bollas in a game of ladder toss. What about heading over to your nearest school basketball court for a little one-on-one action? There’s nothing like some healthy competition between a couple. Show off your athletic prowess and sweep your love off their feet!
3. Hiking
We’re so fortunate that Canada is home to some stunning countryside. From snow-capped mountains to pristine lakes, to lush green forests, we pretty much have it all! Whether you’re just starting out and want a leisurely walk through the woods or prefer more of a challenge, there’s a trail for everyone. Search the ‘net for a nearby trail system and be sure to check out the intensity level noted (Easy, Moderate, Hard). You can even take your bike on a hike!
4. Take A Tipsy Tour!

You’d probably be surprised at how close you actually are to a vineyard, brewery, or distillery. Tour the grounds of these local growers and crafters, learn the creative process, enjoy a delicious meal and, best of all, sample the end product. There are plenty of different types of establishments to visit. Besides our well-established wine regions, check out Canada’s ‘coolest’ in Nova Scotia, boasting over 20 wineries, all located within a couple of hours of Halifax. Craft breweries and distillers of fine spirits have been popping up pretty much everywhere.
Pro Tip – there’s often a local tour company that can map out your day to these spots and chauffeur you to and fro.
5. Camping
Camping is a national pastime and can be the perfect romantic getaway. Pitch a tent, rent an RV, or go glamping for something a bit different. There’s nothing like the smell of pine trees, going for a swim in a nearby lake and, of course, those crackling campfires to snuggle up by. You can still plan a camping trip well into October or even later, depending on where you are. Check out the huge network of Provincial and National Parks, all providing amazing camping experiences in true Canadian fashion.
6. Hit the Beach
Time is a-tickin’ for this date idea so make sure to get over to a sandy beach soon before you find yourself slicing the turkey for Thanksgiving. Pack up a cooler, slip on your slides and get ready to hit the waves with your babe. Build a sandcastle together and soak up the last bits of end-of-summer sun.
7. Visit a Botanical Garden

If you live in the city, you may not always be next door to a park or a patch of greenery. Luckily, many urban centres have amazing botanical gardens so you and your love can easily reconnect with nature. Tours are usually available at botanical gardens, whose exhibits can be classified by type of plant, plants from a specific area of the world, and so on. You’ll be amazed by the vibrant colours and interesting plant and flower species surrounding you.
With these 7 ‘romance bubble’ date ideas, you can keep your social distance while reintroducing romantic outings.
